Gyruss (1988, NES)
Beaten: No
Gyruss is weird, because of how it controls. It played like you were flying down a huge tube, and you could move along the sides, so your ship actually travels in a circle around the screen. It’s a little disorienting at first, but once you figure out the control scheme that works for you, you pick it up pretty easily.
It’s pretty unique for a space shooter because of this. However, it was a bit of a pain in the ass as the game was really finicky in how accurate you had to be when shooting, especially on far-away enemies. I’m talking you had to be pixel-perfect with your shooting, or waste a wide-reaching super shot.
The boss battles were pretty cool and unique, though!
